In modern rail transport, passenger safety is the top priority. Our cable entry systems are therefore tested and certified in accordance with the most stringent industry-specific standards:
Fire safety is a key component of this. The European standard DIN EN 45545 (“Railway applications – Fire safety in rail vehicles”) is the harmonised set of regulations across Europe that has replaced older national standards (such as the German DIN 5510-2). Its primary objective: in the event of a fire, the spread of flames and the generation of toxic smoke must be delayed sufficiently to allow passengers and staff to evacuate the train safely.
For particularly stringent fire safety requirements, CONTA-CLIP uses plastics that meet the highest hazard level, HL3, in accordance with DIN EN 45545. These materials are extremely flame-retardant and, in the event of a fire, help to minimise smoke development and the release of toxic gases. With the HL3 approval of our KDS-RAIL systems, users can be confident that they can use the cable entry systems without restriction in all train classes and on all routes – even under the most demanding operating conditions.
